Summary

The third full week of June 2025 began rather chilly for this time of year, but eventually heated up to the point of producing the first 90° day of the year.  The first three days of the week saw temperatures in the 60s with very little in the way of a diurnal range.  The last four days resulted in highs in at least the 80s with a diurnal range between 19 and 24 degrees.

There have been 19 days of 80-degree weather at GWC, and finally one 90° day.  The first 90° day came on Thursday, June 19th.  Last year’s first 90° day was on June 18th. The temperature on that day was 92°, while the high on June 19th this year was only 90°.  So far in 2025, there have been 17 days with high temperatures of at least 80°F.  Total rainfall for the month continued to fall behind normal, with just under sixth-tenths of an inch of rain this week.  Total rain for the month to date is only 1.63 inches.

The pressure went in full circle this week.  The peak barometric pressure was 30.14 inches on June 15th.  The barometer gradually dropped from there.  The pressure fall began gradually over the first half of the week before dropping more rapidly from June 18th to late in the afternoon on June 19th.  The barometer bottomed out at 29.65 inches at 5:25 PM on June 19th.

The barometer’s abyss coincided with a severe weather outbreak on the afternoon of June 19th.  The storms rocked places from South River in Middlesex County and Wall Township in Monmouth County.  Only a little over a quarter of an inch fell at GWC, but the rainfall was intense.  The peak rainfall rate was over four and a half inches per hour at 12:33 PM.  Much of the week was characterized by grey and gloomy skies that helped keep the temperatures below normal.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for a good portion of the Mid-Atlantic until 9:00 PM EDT
