The week of May 25th to May 31st, 2025 at Greg’s Weather Center in South Plainfield another wet one highlighted by another nor’easter to end the week. After no coastal storms in May for two years, there were two by the end of May 2025. This particular storm was much more potent.
This nor’easter developed on May 30th and brought over four-fifths of an inch of rain to GWC on the 30th and the 31st. The storm’s rainfall capped the week’s total at 1.36 inches, which made May 2025 the wettest May on record. The month’s rainfall places it in the top ten all-time at GWC.
The rainfall rate overnight on Friday into Saturday was the highest of the month as well. The amount of rainfall per hour peaked at 5.05 during the early morning hours of May 31st. The barometer was the other big story with this storm.
From midnight on May 30th to 5:00 AM on May 31st, the barometric pressure dropped 0.72 of an inch or 24 millibars to 29.14 inches or 987 millibars. It was the lowest pressure ever recorded on this date at Greg’s Weather Center. The Nor’easter had the strength of a Category One Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale.
